Holy SOTO! Break out the brooms!

Soto410.jpgWhat a difference a week makes... after looking apathetic and disinterested against the Brewers, the bats are alive (even Soriano's... finally) and the pitching has been good enough as the Cubs swept through Pittsburgh.

Other than Fukudome, who has been among the best players in all of baseball so far this season, my favorite player to watch so far is easily Geovany Soto.  Soto went 4-for-5 on Thursday night with a go-ahead 2-run homerun and a triple away from the cycle.  That coming after playing every inning off Monday's 12-inning affair and Wednesday's 15-inning contest.

Len Kasper called it correctly in the first week of the season.  Soto wasn't getting hits but man was he scorching the baseball.  I can't wait until the winds shift inside the Friendly Confines and this kid with a name straight out of a Charles Dickens novel starts raking like he's Johnny Lee Bench.

Note: Does anyone else hate seeing Corey Patterson playing so well for Cincy this year?  I mean I was really looking forward to him roaming centerfield in Wrigley Field for Dusty Baker this year and actually being happy when he went 0-4 with 3 strikeouts on a total of 12 pitches.

I feel slighted.  Pie is doing his best Corey Patterson impersonation and now Patterson is finally acting like the 5-tool player we were always told he was.  Note to self, if Eric Patterson sucks his first year, don't trade him for a Hairston.  Let him ride it out in Iowa until he comes along.
